If you are one of the lucky people who get to spend the afternoon sitting in an office chair with the a/c cranked up, you might not’ve noticed the mini-heat wave frying eggs on sidewalks across Silicon Valley. As you might have guessed this weather calls for lighter fabrics and airier pieces.
Stephanie, 17 of San Jose was heading out the door on her way to a local tanning salon where she works when we stopped her and talked to her about what she had on.
How did you decide on what you’re wearing today?
Well, working the front desk at a tanning salon means I interact with a whole lot of people. I try to dress professionally but still look friendly and approachable. The salon is bright and uplifting so I let that feeling reflect in the way I look.
One can be sure summer has arrived by appreciating what Stephanie is wearing. Aside from her disarming smile, her other accessories include a set of bangles to accent her dress and shoes, giving her outfit a bit of metallic shine without going overboard.
The dress gives Stephanie a laid-back yet presentable look that matches the tanning salon setting and is definitely appropriate for this time of year.
What makes your outfit suitable for the occasion?
I feel like it fits the atmosphere of the salon. I’d feel kinda outta place if I were anymore dressed up or dressed down. Customers come in casually dressed or sometimes more dressed down but don’t feel uncomfortable by my outfit.
Her shoes are what pull the whole outfit together and make it suitable for the work environment. Imagine Stephanie with the same dress and flip-flops on – she’d be ready to head out to the beach but not necessarily work-ready.
So there she is, the first blip on the Helium Radar. Stephanie came dressed to face the world in a breezy, free-spirited yet professional coat of armor. Feeling this comfortable in what you have on should give you this type of confidence and it’s easy to achieve as long as you know what you’re dressing for and how to get there.
I will so need to borrow money from you when your a top journalist!!! Well maybe by then I’l be a big name photographer and all will be good.
