By no means would I consider myself a fashionista. I’ve never watched Project Runway and sometimes my clothes may not match; I prefer comfort versus style. Let’s just say I’m Silicon Valleys’ very own “Ugly Betty.” When it comes to fashion, I’m like Betty Suarez on her first day on the job at Mode Magazine; lost in the midst of fashion-conscious divas and posh posers.

I do not follow the latest fashion trends nor do I own any name-brand clothing. And although I will appreciate a beautiful dress that was made either by Versace or Valentino, I most likely would never wear, or even be able to afford one of their artistic creations. I do, however, know history, and I believe it is important to understand the origins of something in order to appreciate its purpose and its value.

That is why I will be taking you the reader on a journey back through fashion history. From headbands to stilettos, from earrings to belly-rings, you will be informed about the origin of various fashion accessories and the initial purpose for their materialization. My goal is to help you gain a new appreciation for your favorite fashion accessories that will lead you to wear them with a new-found respect. Hold on to your jewels, back-to-the-fashion we go!
