Let me say this up front – I am not Betsey Johnson. I don’t go by the title “Fashion Diva” or in my case, “fashion Divo.” And you won’t find TLC’s “What Not to Wear” on my TiVo.

But I will tell you that I am capable of spotting a sharp dresser. Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – sharp dresser. Now, you may not agree that a purple pea coat, top hat and stunna shades make for a good outfit, but you gotta admit, it does look sharp.

This blog won’t try to convince you that the next trend is to make out to be an eccentric recluse or to dress like an oompa loompa, but the movie reference does serve to illustrate my point. It’s that your clothes aren’t what make you look sharp, it’s how you put the outfit together for the occasion and how to make it work for you. You have to admit the purple pea coat, top hat and stunna shades seem oddly in place at Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.

For days when you’re not touring said factory, you may know exactly what to put on to match your mood and then there are the times you’re pulling your hair out because you can’t find a pair of pants to go with your shoes for the next video store run. My goal is to spotlight well dressed individuals in Silicon Valley, Santana Row and downtown San Jose among others, through Helium Radar to inspire you on days when you and your closet just aren’t seeing eye to eye.
